A shared ebike pool at work can facilitate more cyclists in traffic

With Bikely, the two shared e-bikes at Teknobyen have been given a new home. The app ensures access to the bike lockers around the clock for 2500 tennants. Happy cyclists, less car usage and minimal manual administration for KLP.

A new home for Abel and Vilje

Abel and Vilje is the name of the two shared bicycles at Teknobyen – which is located in Elgeseter close to Trondheim city center. The idea is that ebikes can replace unnecessary car usage to and from meetings during the work day, and that several of the tenants will choose public or active transport to work.

- As a landowner we can provide free shared ebikes to the tenants. This is an exciting concept and we have retrieved good feedback from those who have ridden the bicycles. Many who have never ridden an ebike before – has purchased an ebike after trying it at our place, says Marketing Coordinator Steffen Ødegård at KLP Real Estate Trondheim.

The shared e-bikes were launched at Teknobyen in the wake of the pandemic. In the beginning, the receptionist administered the e-bike rental. Booking was available on the website homepage. This worked quite well until KLP was introduced to Bikely. The system from Bikely eliminates time consuming efforts to administrate the e-bike pool for the receptionist. With Bikely, the shared rental is always open and available through the app.

- When the pandemic has worn off, Bikely will make it easier for us to invest in cycling. The Bikeboxes are small pods which can be equipped with extra gear and backpack, says Steffen.

An extra bonus for the tenants

As soon as the tenants are invited to the app, they can easily reserve one of the shared e-bikes. Bikely enables easy access including ending the rental after use. The boxes have been equipped for battery charging. In addition, KLP can log in to a dashboard where they administer access and gain complete overview of the usage.

- The exclusive access to the e-bike pool is an extra bonus for our tenants, says Steffen.

During the pandemic there has been less travel to Teknobyen, less people on the premises and low usage of the bicycle pool. The normal travel habits have changed, and most people are driving to work to avoid exposure to large crowds. Steffen is looking forward to the autumn and thinks this can drive usage of the e-bike pool:

- The dream would be crowds yearning to rent the ebikes and all fully booked bike lockers - so that we will have to get more. It would be great to invest in more lockers!

The e-bike rental development and bike locker usage will be easy for Steffen to track in the Bikely dashboard. The dream scenario might be just around the corner!
