On Wednesday 22nd of December at 11 am, bicycle parking and art merge together at Prinsen Kinosenter. Trond Åm will unveil a secret art work. Åm is a member of the area and transport committee in Trondheim and is a manager at Litteraturhuset – cycling and culture. The art work Utopia is 20,6 square meters and will adorn the 12 smart bike lockers that are now being deployed at the Prinsen movie theater. A gift from the the Miljøpakke in Trondheim

- An exciting opportunity to explore what drawing brings to a public space. Utopia reflects how nature and technology can work together through repetitive patterns in nature, explains Murphy, who recently completed a master's degree at NTNU.

The topic is on point for the collaboration between the technology company Bikely, artist Erin Murphy and Miljøpakken. The hope is that the art piece will increase the number of cyclist visitors to the cinema.

- The goal is that more people will discover secure bicycle parking when this is combined with art, says Ole Vebjørn Bakken in Miljøpakken.

Secure bike lockers at four locations

Miljøpakken has in total purchased 39 bike lockers. They are placed at Leütenhaven, Ørjaveita and Trondheim Spektrum, in addition to Prinsen kino. Cyclists gain access to secure bicycle parking through the app Bikely. The four first hours are always for free - well suites for those who want to cycle back and forth from a cinema visit.

Trond Åm who is a politician for Venstre and a manager for Litteraturhuset lead the formal unveiling outside of the cinema.

- We are proud to announce that bike lockers as an art piece are unveiled outside Prinsen Kinosenter. Now can cycling visitors to the cinema relax while they visit us, says Lisa Stølan Hagen at Prinsen Kino.

Technology and art against bike theft

During the last five years there has been reported 8066 bike thefts in Trondheim. The bike thieves are efficient and rude, and the offenses are difficult to solve. Only 1.8% of the 1893 reported bicycle thefts in 2020 have been solved.
